Week 37
A finished comic and a comic that is getting closer to being finished.
Coming to you first thing on a Monday morning. What do you think? I thought maybe you’d like to start your week with an insane completed comic. Here it is.
I like how this took a couple of turns. It was nice to figure it out as I went along. Please let me know your thoughts.
This actually is not the only comic I finished recently, in a way.
Last week I finished the final draft of my book, which I’ve now printed out and have started handing to a few readers for their final notes before I start the finished art.
I’ve given it one full read through to check for basic errors (of which there were a few) and now I plan to put it aside for a bit until I can gather the feedback from readers and my editor and make any final changes.
I definitely cannot tell right now if it is any good or if I like it. My great hope is that in a couple of months I will have had a little bit of distance and can see it again more clearly.
In the meantime, I may do a couple of posts coming up about the process to this point. The most common reaction I get when I tell people I’ve been working on a book for 4+ years is shock. They can’t seem to fathom how something could take so long to make. To me it doesn’t seem all that long, not just that it has gone quite quickly, but also because I don’t see how I could have gotten even to this point any faster. Sure, I had hoped to be a little further along, but sometimes there’s just no shortcut to thinking. Sometimes writing involves long periods of not actually writing. Like what I’m about to embark upon. And also it’s not like its the only thing I’ve been doing—I also made some drawings of chubby horses (Which I will send out soon to those that asked! Also if you asked and I haven’t responded, can you comment here? Some emails are still going to spam!) and had a baby.
Anyway, I can show you exactly why it’s taken this long to get to this point, I have all the receipts.
This Week I Learned…
That Jurassic 5 are the Arj Barker of hip-hop.
I’ve recently made a new friend in the building where I live. He’s from New York City and the other day we were talking about hip-hop. Somehow Jurassic 5 came up, and he had some VERY negative things to say about the L.A. six-piece, but mainly seemed just bamboozled at how much he had heard their music since living in Australia, since they were never really that big in America.
I always thought of them as a rather fun and inoffensive group but apparently that’s because Australians only really like music that’s about “having a good time”, which, having worked at our national youth broadcaster for nearly a decade, is actually hard to argue with.
Anyway…
Rachel is doing a fun new live show this week, it’s word nerd trivia and games.
It’s called Word Play and she'll be joined on stage by Sofija Stefanovic, Tony Birch and Osman Faruqi.
If it sounds up your alley buy tickets here!
